  • GFRC SINK CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

Your Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) sink is a handcrafted architectural piece designed to last for decades when properly cared for. While concrete is an exceptionally durable material, it is also a natural, breathable surface that benefits from routine and mindful maintenance. The following guidelines will help preserve the beauty, performance, and finish of your sink.

    Recommended cleaners:

        •    Mild dish soap

        •    Stone-safe or concrete-safe cleaners

    ❌ WHAT TO AVOID

Never use the following on your GFRC sink:

        •    Abrasive scouring pads or steel wool

        •    Bleach or ammonia

        •    Acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon, CLR, Lime-Away)

        •    Harsh degreasers

        •    Powdered cleaners or gritty pastes

These products can dull the sealer, etch the surface, and reduce stain resistance over time.

    💧 SEALING & STAIN RESISTANCE

All of our GFRC sinks are professionally sealed using a high-performance penetrating concrete sealer at the time of fabrication. This sealer provides strong protection against moisture and staining; however, concrete is naturally porous and benefits from periodic resealing.

Signs your sink may need resealing include:

        •    Water no longer beading on the surface

        •    Darkening when wet

        •    Increased sensitivity to staining

A concrete or stone sealer can be easily reapplied following the manufacturer’s instructions.

🍷 STAIN PREVENTION & SPILL CARE

While sealed, your sink is highly stain-resistant—but not stain-proof. Prompt cleanup is key.

    Immediately wipe spills from:

        •    Wine, coffee, tea

        •    Oils and grease

        •    Dyes

        •    Citrus, vinegar, or acidic foods

For stubborn residues, use a mild soap and soft sponge—never abrasive tools.

    🔥 HEAT & THERMAL SHOCK

Concrete is heat-resistant but not immune to thermal shock.

        •    Avoid sudden extreme hot-to-cold temperature changes.

Using a trivet or allowing hot water to mix with cooler water before contact is always recommended.

    🛠 INSTALLATION & DRAIN CARE

Proper installation is essential to the longevity of your sink:

        •    Use non-acidic, stone-safe plumbing sealants

        •    Ensure the sink is fully supported according to its weight

        •    Avoid over-tightening drain hardware

Do not use harsh chemical drain cleaners. If needed, use enzyme-based or plumbing-safe mechanical methods.

    ✨ NATURAL VARIATION & PATINA

Concrete is a living material. Over time, you may notice:

        •    Subtle shifts in tone

        •    Gentle surface character

        •    A naturally developing patina

These are not defects but hallmarks of authentic, handcrafted concrete that add depth and uniqueness to your piece.

    🧽 LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE SUMMARY

        •    Clean regularly with mild soap and water

        •    Wipe spills promptly

        •    Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives

        •    Reseal every 5-10 years depending on use

        •    Protect from extreme heat and sudden temperature changes

With proper care, your GFRC sink will age beautifully and remain a standout architectural feature for many years.
